HISTORY OF FAME

Café Slávia
Since 1919

Before the present building was built in 1900, there was a one-storey townhouse. As it was close to the Royal House and adjacent to the Levoča House, where the town captains lived, this house was also rented from its owner Elias Getzi for the army at the beginning of the 17th century.

Later the building changed several owners and at the turn of 18. and the 19th century an inn was established on the ground floor. In the second half of the 19th century, the new owner was Jozef Schiffbeck, who established a luxury hotel here. In 1927, the Italian master's fencing school was located here and in the 1950s the building also served as a department store for some time.

In 1982 the building was declared a cultural monument and later it was reclassified as a national cultural monument. In the early 1990s, the building underwent extensive renovation, while the luxurious café on the ground floor and the hotel rooms were preserved.

The building has also become famous thanks to the Slovak Television music show Kaviareň Slávia, which was filmed in its interiors.
